WARM UP
TO SAFE RIVER RECREATION ON THE TRUCKEE
Important River Information Posted and Available to
Community
With warm weather upon us, water
recreation on the Truckee River looks
very inviting. For those looking to have some fun on the river, the
Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) continues to produce a river
recreation map that includes tips on use of the river.
The map is available online here at the Yacht Club Website and at www.tmh2o.com or in a water-proof printed format at TMWA’s office. (The Map is a PDF file of 3.4 MB which could take considerable time to download on a normal 56kb phone modem internet connection. If you need an updated version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader, find it here.)
The map details river features that
should be taken into
consideration by any person utilizing the river. It includes the
locations of dams, rapids and access points, along with a scale of
difficulty based on rapid classification. Daily river flows are
available on TMWA’s website, on the Reno Gazette-Journal weather page,
and on the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Flow web page at
http://water.usgs.gov/nv/nwis/current/?type=flow.
“We recognize that the river is a
popular recreation spot this time
of year, so we continue distributing this map to inform people about
the Truckee,” said Lori Williams, general manager of TMWA.
Permanent versions of this map information in the form of signs are posted at five common access points to the river. Produced and maintained by TMWA, the signs are located at: Farad, Crystal Peak Park, Mayberry Park, Idlewild Park and Rock Park. TMWA worked closely with Washoe County and the cities of Reno and Sparks in placing the signs.
