Truckee River Yacht ClubA Good Year: Lisa Heki of the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) tells us that 650,000 cui-ui (pronounced koo-ee-wee) have been passed over Marble Bluff Dam with the peak coming in May. Another interesting sidelight was finding a tagged cui-ui from 1946--and she was headed upstream to spawn. Think of that! A great year for fish!
Cui-ui (and chub and tahoe sucker) fish spawning can be seen beginning in March through May of years where sufficient water is available in the Truckee River. The best opportunity is to go to Marble Bluff Dam just north of Nixon on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation.
