Truckee River Cleanup a Success!
October 2002

Truckee River Yacht Club Cleanup: Painting park light poles
Bridges and poles got equal treatment at Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County Truckee River Parks at the "cleanup".  Here a light pole is spruced up with a fresh coat of paint in John Champion Park.  But volunteers were cleaning up from Washoe County's Mayberry Park in the west part of town to Wingfield Park in downtown Reno to Cottonwood park in Sparks.  While volunteers did pick up lots of trash, the amount of trash was visibly less than in previous years.  The river patrol police have been doing an extraordinary job of keeping the river clean and safe for all of us to enjoy.  Mostly this was an enjoyable morning cleaning up, painting, raking, pruning, and enjoying our neighbors from around town.

Wrap for trees
Volunteers prepare wire mesh to wrap around cottonwood trees to discourage beavers from chewing them down.  Thanks!

Port of Subs generously provided sub sandwiches, chips, and brownies!
Many thanks to PORT OF SUBS who generously provided a tasty variety of sub sandwiches, chips, and brownies for all the volunteers to enjoy for lunch!

Volunteers relax during lunch at John Champion Park
Volunteers took a break from the cleaning, painting, wrapping, and trimming to have lunch and enjoy John Champion Park.

Many thanks to everyone who spent their Sunday morning help with the Truckee River Cleanup Day and to the Port of Subs for providing the food.   Good job.  Also the Truckee River Yacht Club thanks our hard working volunteer organizers;  Don Vetter and Susan Lynn.
